Apple has granted a straight-to-series order to a limited drama series called "Chief of War" with Jason Momoa as a star, writer, and executive producer.

At 42, this will be Momoa's first time writing a television show. The streaming service isn't new to him as Momoa currently stars in Apple TV+’s post-apocalyptic drama series where almost all humans lost their sense of sight called "See," which has been renewed for a third season.

According to Deadline, The eight-episode series follows the unprecedented and epic story of how Hawaii was colonized and unified from an indigenous point of view. Co-creating and co-writing on the project with Momoa is Thomas Pa’a Sibbett, who worked with him on the 2018 film "Braven" and co-wrote the upcoming western feature "The Last Manhunt" with Momoa as well.

Also serving as executive producers are Francis Lawrence, Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, Erik Holmberg, and Doug Jung. Jung, a writer on "Star Trek Beyond," will serve as a showrunner, too. Actor Justin Chon, who directed four episodes of Apple TV +’s "Pachinko," is in negotiations to direct the first two episodes.

The "Aquaman" actor is also set to reprise his role in "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom," making his return to theaters March 17th of next year.

No release date for "Chief of War" has been announced, but the show will be produced by Endeavor Content and Chernin Entertainment.
