Ireland Baldwin has opened up about her experiences with sexual assault and abortion in a recent TikTok video.
Before telling her story, the model prefaced her video with a disclaimer as to why she is speaking out. She remembers seeing many posts on the platform pressuring women with similar stories to speak out, a point she strongly disagrees with. She tells her viewers:
"I am only now telling my story because I want other women to feel supported and loved whether they want to share their own or not."
Although the video didn't focus on the assault, Baldwin revealed she had been raped as a teenager while "completely unconscious." She never named her attacker or or any other details, but she noted that "it changed the course of the rest of my life." No one in the model's life knew about the rape, including her parents and her then-boyfriend.
She says:
"I kept that secret in me for a lot of years and because I did, it caused a lot of hurt and a lot of pain to me and to people I loved."
Baldwin shared that following the event, she "spiraled and lost control of her life." Her days were filled with partying, drinking, and involvement in abusive relationships. She recalls "self medicating" to distract herself from the horrors of what happened to her.
She also spoke about her abortion experience with a different boyfriend, one she says was very clear about not wanting children or even a serious relationship. At the time, the pair was "very unhappy." Upon becoming pregnant, Baldwin alluded to the rocky relationship between her parents Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger saying,
"I knew what it was like to be born between two people who hated each other."
She concluded by saying,
"I chose me and I would choose me again."
