Madison Hubbell and Zachary Donahue took home the bronze medal for USA in the ice dancing competition at the Beijing Winter Games last night.

The pair scored a total of 218.02, beating out fellow Americans Madison Chock and Evan Bates for the final spot on the podium. Ahead of them were gold medalists Gabrielle Papadakis and Guilaume Cizeron of France (226.98) and silver medalists Victoria Sinitsina and Nikita Katsalapov of Russia (220.51).

Donahue and Hubbell put on a passionate performance as they danced to Anne Sila's Drowning, earning them the bronze medal in a tight competition. In doing so, the duo continued an impressive streak, making this the fifth consecutive Olympics in which an American ice skating duo have stood on the podium.

"I have always been told since I was a little girl that my journey through skating should always be about the days and the moments, not just the accolades. I think this medal only came because we really took that to heart in the last four years," Hubbell, said after the win.
"We tried to skate like normal, like we do every day at practice and trusted that would be enough. And it was, so we couldn't be more grateful," she continued.

Donahue added of the "emotional performance,"

"It just hasn't really sunk in yet."

Prior to leaving for China, Hubbell and Donahue announced that this would be their last Olympics appearance. Donahue talked to PEOPLE about closing this chapter in their lives,

"I think it's quite empowering in some ways, as we get to own the space in our career that we're in. On the other hand, it's fueling us to really take in every moment."

The pair, who have been skating together for over ten years, even dating for a brief period early on in their partnership, have assured fans they would not be completely leaving the sport.

"I think we'll do it in shows. We'll continue to be in the community. We both want to have some part in coaching and doing choreography," Hubbell said. "I don't think we'll ever truly stop."
