The Sanderson sisters are back to put a spell on us!
Twenty-nine years after the release of cult classic "Hocus Pocus," fans are finally getting their long desired sequel. On June 28, Disney+ dropped the trailer for "Hocus Pocus 2," and the wait was well worth it.
Originally released in 1993, the first film never reached box office success. Instead, "Hocus Pocus" steadily became a cult classic, with families watching every Halloween for a dose of witchy entertainment. The official synopsis for the new sequel promises the same enjoyment, reading,
“It’s been 29 years since someone lit the Black Flame Candle and resurrected the 17th-century sisters, and they are looking for revenge. Now it is up to three high-school students to stop the ravenous witches from wreaking a new kind of havoc on Salem before dawn on All Hallow’s Eve.”
The trailer shows just that, as two new characters light the Black Flame Candle for the first time in three decades. The Sanderson sisters then return in a whirlwind, with Winifred proclaiming,
“Pack up your children. Yes, Salem, we’re back!”
The clips also show the sisters "looking for a stage," possibly promising another iconic musical moment.
Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy are back as the beloved Winifred, Sarah, and Sarah. Doug Jones is also reprising his role as Billy Butcherson. The cast also includes new members Sam Richardson, Hannah Waddingham, Whitney Peak, Belissa Escobedo, Lilia Buckingham, Froyan Gutierrez, and Tony Hale.
Just in time for annual Halloween fun, "Hocus Pocus 2" releases exclusively on Disney+ beginning September 30.
