25 years after their very public breakup, Gwyneth Paltrow and Brad Pitt revealed some details from their three-year engagement, in an interview on Paltrow’s beauty, fashion, and wellness website, Goop.
Paltrow and Pitt initially came together to talk about "The Lost City" star's involvement in "God’s True Cashmere," a clothing brand which was recently approved to be sold on Goop.
Paltrow says that she“finally found the Brad I was supposed to marry. It just took me 20 years.”
Though the couple never ended on bad terms, they seemed happy to have rekindled an amicable friendship.
“It’s lovely to have you as a friend now,” Pitt responded.
Throughout their time together, Pitt grew close with Paltrow's dad, Bruce Paltrow, who passed away in 2002 as a result of throat cancer.
In light of Father’s Day approaching, the actress and businesswoman recalled a moment where her father described his relationship with Pitt, saying,
“You know, I never really realized what they mean when they say you’re gaining a son. Like, I’m gaining a son.”
Touched by the statement, Pitt described the director and producer fondly:
“One of the many things I loved about Bruce—because he did have a profound effect on me and is someone I still think about—was he really fostered your voice, your independence.” Pitt shared.
Pitt added that he gave the “same kind of guidance that you would get from a coach or a mentor.”
After Paltrow and Pitt’s breakup in 1997, Paltrow went on to marry Coldplay musician, Chris Martin, with whom she had two kids. The couple eventually split in 2014, and she found love with director of "Glee" and "American Horror Story," Brad Falchuk.
Concurrently Pitt married Jennifer Aniston in 2000. After their separation, he went on to marry and share six children with Angelina Jolie. However, since Jolie filed for a divorce in 2016, Pitt has remained primarily single.
