New Details Announced for Guy Ritchie Spy Thriller Starring Aubrey Plaza and Jason Statham

Aubrey Plaza and Jason Statham

We finally have a release date for the director's most ambitious film yet.

Production company STXfilms (which produced masterpieces like Hustlers and 21 Bridges) has revealed the release date for British action director Guy Ritchie's latest film, Five Eyes. The spy thriller will reunite Ritchie with his long-time collaborator, international superstar Jason Statham, who will play the starring role.

Five Eyes centers on Orson Fortune, a master spy played by Statham who is recruited by the Five Eyes network. He faces off against a weapons dealer named Greg Simmonds (played by Hugh Grant), who has acquired a new technology that could destabilize the world's balance of power. However, Statham won't be alone. Joining the film in unspecified roles are Parks and Recreation star Aubrey Plaza, The Princess Bride 's leading man Cary Elwes, British rapper Bugzy Malone, and Penny Dreadful actor Josh Hartnett.

Ritchie last teamed up with Statham for 2021's Wrath of Man, which received mixed reviews. The year before, Ritchie directed The Gentlemen (also featuring Hugh Grant), and in 2019 he was responsible for the critically-panned live-action remake of Aladdin. Statham has mostly been involved in the Fast & Furious franchise for the past few years, though he also co-starred in 2018's The Meg.

Five Eyes is scheduled to release on January 21, 2022.
