Following the success of “Ghostbusters: Afterlife,” Sony announced at April’s CinemaCon that another "Ghostbusters" film is in the works. Writers Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan have finally revealed some details of this waited for sequel!
“Ghostbusters: Afterlife” is the third canon sequel of the original 1984 movie. “Afterlife” came out November 2021, following a single mother and her two children as they uncover the legacy of their grandfather, one of the founding Ghostbusters.
The movie was a huge hit to new and old fans alike, sparking desire for more "Ghostbusters" material, and they are getting it.
Director Reitman and co-writer Kenan have spoken to The Hollywood Reporter about what’s coming for this franchise, and it includes two films, a comic series, video games, and an animated Netflix TV show.
The new "Ghostbusters" movie, to take place after the events in “Afterlife,” already has a code name.
Jason Reitman shared with THR,
“The code name for the next movie is ‘Firehouse.’”
“Firehouse,” refers to the original Ghostbusters base of operations, which is in Manhattan.
Although many plot details have not yet been revealed, Kenan says, “We’re writing as quickly as we can.”
“We had the story before we finished ‘Afterlife.’ And we have been crafting this with as much care as it took to build ‘Afterlife’ into a worthy sequel.”
The two were able to confirm the appearance of Ernie Hudson in his original role as well.
“The character of Winston Zeddemore and Zeddemore Industries figures strongly into the future of Ghostbusters,” notes Reitman.
Overall, Reitman concludes,
“If you’re a "Ghostbusters" fan, you’re about to have access to all different decades of "Ghostbusters" history as well as the future, characters you haven’t met yet, and places you haven’t gone yet. If you’re a "Ghostbusters" fan, you’ve got a lot coming your way.”
