Season four is set to be the scariest one yet.

While a guest on Tuesday night's episode of The Tonight Show, Stranger Thingsstar Gaten Matarazzo revealed some key details about the Netflix hit's fourth season.

The Tonight Show's host, Jimmy Fallon, recalled how Matarazzo (who plays Dustin Henderson on the show) hinted that this upcoming season just might be the scariest one yet. Matarazzo confirmed Fallon's suspicion, exclaiming

"Ooh, yeah. That's the one thing that I've noticed. I was reading it and [thought], 'they are going for it this year'. That's pretty cool."

Last week, Matarazzo also took to Entertainment Tonight to share that this fourth season will take on a much more mature tone.

"When it comes to the tone of the season, it's definitely, I think the tone is definitely matured for sure, and I think they do that on purpose because I think they want their show to mature with their kids."

"As we are growing older as people, we have to grow older as characters. They're confronted by this issue, but they embrace it, and they use it to their advantage," Matarazzo shared. "And they don't freak out when we get taller or when our voices drop or anything like that. They use it and they use it as ammunition for their writing. It's incredible what they can do. Working with them, it's just exceptional. Always has been."

While on The Tonight Show, Matarazzo also spoke about the new show he stars in and executive produces, "Prank Encounters" on Netflix. The show marries horror and practical pranks. Its second season is available now on the streaming platform.

Gaten also shared how he kept busy this summer in a pandemic, revealing that he worked as an incognito food runner at a restaurant near his home in New Jersey. He mentioned that even with a hat and mask on, he got recognized by fans in attendance at the restaurant!

While a premiere date for season four of Stranger Things has yet to be released, production is most likely to end soon if it hasn't already. Filming began way back in March of 2020 but was halted due to the pandemic. As of March 2021, new set photos have been leaking, suggesting that film might still be underway.

Stranger Things fans, keep your eyes peeled for season four!
