Maisie Williams is moving on.
The "Game of Thrones" actress opened up about her career in an interview with "British GQ," where she graced the magazine's upcoming cover. Now that the series has ended, Williams has retreated to a quiet life in the countryside where she's working on her next creative projects.
Still, even with the future in mind, Williams took a moment to reflect on the past, opening up about her experience as Arya Stark on the hit HBO series. She began filming when she was just twelve years old, and even remembers the first day she was given a bra to wear on set. She said,
“I think that when I started becoming a woman, I resented Arya because I couldn’t express who I was becoming. And then I also resented my body, because it wasn’t aligned with the piece of me that the world celebrated.”
The younger members of the "Game of Thrones" cast hardly made public appearances in the beginning. Williams recalled when she walked her first red carpet, stating,
“I’m grateful we were protected from it until that point, too. If that had happened when I was 12, I’m not sure what that would have done to me mentally.”
When asked what parts of filming GOT she misses, the actress replied "None of it." She explained,
“I don’t think it’s healthy [to miss it], because I loved it. I look at it so fondly, and I look at it with such pride. But why would I want to make myself feel sad about the greatest thing that ever happened to me? I don’t want to associate that with feelings of pain.”
To Williams, to "miss" something is to want it back in your life, and that's not what she wants right now regarding the series. As for a possible "Game of Thrones" spin-off, she says nothing is impossible.
“I’m not saying it would never happen [...] It has to be the right time and the right people. It has to be right in the context of all the other spin-offs and the universe of 'Game of Thrones.' It has to be the right time for me.”
