Game of Thronesis one of the most popular TV shows in history, with the HBO series remaining in the mind of fans two years after its series finale. After a cryptic tweet from the show's Twitter account, fans are speculating about what's next for Westeros.
The Tweet
Winter is coming.— Game of Thrones (@Game of Thrones) 1618422459
Now, this tweet is odd, because as you know, it's April. Winter has passed. Which means this isn't a goofy tweet about upcoming Christmas cheer, there's something in the works.
A Remake
Most fans seem to hope that this means we're going to get a remake of season eight, which left a bitter taste in most people's mouths. After an anticlimactic and confusing ending that came virtually out of nowhere, it makes sense that people would want another take on the epic series.
But that's probably not going to happen. Just realistically, the show is over, and they ended it how they wanted to end it. Did anything make sense about the ending? No, but that doesn't mean they're going to redo a multimillion dollar blockbuster to make fans happy.
A Spinoff
if HBO wants me to watch a Game Of Thrones spin off I want a personal apology for season 8. 12 pt font, double spac… https://t.co/I37i0mCJhS— Astead (@Astead) 1618442873
The hope for a Westerosverse is a far more likely outcome. Spin offs are making a lot of money these days. Fandoms of franchises like Marvel and Star Wars want the gaps filled for the world they love so much. And, by filling that gap of knowledge, Disney+ is making millions of dollars.
So, it wouldn't be surprising, and it would be very exciting, if we could get the chance to see an expanded universe come from the creators.
