Billy McFarland has been released from prison early.

On Wednesday, the Fyre Festival organizer was released from the Milan Federal Correctional Institution in Milan, Michigan, and is now living in a halfway house in New York City.

In 2018, McFarland was sentenced to six years in prison after admitting to defrauding investors in the 2017 Fyre Festival scheme. The festival was billed as a luxurious music festival in The Bahamas and ended up being anything but. In reality, festival-goers were given limited food and water with only tents to sleep in.

According to his attorney Jason Russo, McFarland is now focused on repaying the $26 million he owes in restitution for his crimes.

Russo said,

“Any new projects that he does become involved in will be done solely for the purpose of generating the restitution for paying back his victims.”

McFarland is set to be released from the halfway house August 30 of this year.
