Celebritypage.com's Sonia Isabelle recently sat down with breakout star Kaci Walfall, lead of Naomi on The CW.
Naomi follows a normal, comic book-loving teenage girl who uncovers her true destiny when supernatural events shake her hometown to the core. With the help of her best friend, Annabelle, Naomi sets out to uncover the mystery behind these encounters.
She stumbles upon an unlikely mentor in the local tattoo shop, Dee, who helps Naomi unravel the mystery while also navigating high school, friendships, and family.
At just 17 years old, Walfall's life isn’t too far off from her character, Naomi's. But rather than uncovering supernatural secrets on her time off from school, the actress is focused on on her career.
She told Celebritypage.com that it’s been “a little bit hard” to juggle school and her career, elaborating,
“But, I have great people around me…I had a great set tutor to help me with my senior year, but you know, setting up my priorities and focusing on time management is really really nice.”
Surprisingly, Walfall was not familiar with the superhero "Naomi McDuffie" prior to auditioning for the role. She said,
“I was sort of dumbfounded that I wasn’t [familiar] because there’s not a lot of black girls who are superheroes.”
Once she became familiar with the character, it seemed to be a 'match made in heaven,' telling advocatechannel.com that she felt that she “could really align” with Naomi.
Despite her huge success at such a young age, Walfall remains humble, revealing that it’s “such a blessing” to have landed her first major role.
“It’s been an absolute dream, it’s my first lead role in anything—even, like, a school play, so I’m really really grateful.”
In addition to taking front and center, Walfall has even more to be excited about. She is working alongside directing legend Ava Duvernay, who's serving as writer and executive producer on the project. The Naomi star says she has “looked up to” Duvernay for so long, which is why she feels “so blessed to work with her.”
