Celebrities and organizations have advocated on the importance of education and literacy, especially for children, for many years. Check out the books celebs recommend and the organizations helping to keep education a top priority.


Emma Roberts

Over the past year, actress Emma Roberts has not only had a baby, but also recommended some great reads for her fans. The Holidate (2020) star has recommended:

When asked what his most treasured possession is the television personality answered with,

"First edition books."

When asked who his favorite writers are, Colbert answered:

"J.R.R. Tolkien, J.D. Salinger, Robertson Davies, George Saunders, Larry Niven, Henry Kuttner, and Isaac Asimov"

The Obamas

On top of their personal memoirs, A Promised Land (2020) and Becoming (2018), the former President and First Lady of the United States have lists of favorite reads.

For a more adult read, Wilde has taken to her Instagram to promote director Miranda July's autobiography Miranda July (2020).

Save With Stories

Numerous other organizations are dedicated to promoting education and literacy.

Wilde amongst numerous other celebrities have worked with Save With Stories. Save With Stories is a branch of Save the Children and partner of No Kid Hungry. The organization's website states,

"we're offering stories on Instagram and Facebook to provide fun and education to kids and parents stuck at home during the coronavirus outbreak."

Room to Read is a global non-profit organization that focuses on improving literacy and gender equality in education.

First Book

One of the many organizations supported by the late night host is First Book. First Book's mission statement reads,

"Significant barriers stand in the way for kids in low-income communities, including scarce books and learning materials and a lack of diversity in the books that do reach them. Book Fairies Worldwide

One of the organizations Watson has partnered with is Book Fairies Worldwide. Book Fairies help promote reading by sharing good finds globally. The organization describe their activism stating,

They pop an official book fairy sticker on it, which reads 'take this book, read it & leave it for the next person to enjoy', and they might even add a ribbon to dress it up as a gift.
