Cruella has been out for less than two weeks, but a follow-up film has already been announced. Director Craig Gillespie and screenwriter Tony McNamara, both of whom worked on the original, are attached to the new project as well.

No details about this new project have been released yet, but it's safe to say that it will center on the iconic One Hundred and One Dalmatians villainess and her zest for punishing puppies. The announcement of a sequel comes as little surprise, as Cruella has already grossed nearly $50 million globally and currently has a 97% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes in spite of mixed reviews from critics. The film stars Emma Stone as the titular character, while Emma Thompson and Mark Strong appear in supporting roles.

Cruella was released on May 28th, both theatrically and on Disney+ for members who paid an additional 30 dollars to access the streaming service's Premier Access tier. This marks the third time that Disney has released a movie on its streaming service for an additional fee; the live-action Mulan remake and animated masterpiece Raya and the Last Dragon both initially cost 30 dollars to watch on release. Cruella is scheduled to become available to regular Disney+ subscribers on August 27, 2021.
