Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodríguez are mourning the loss of their infant son.
The soccer star and his wife released the news in a joint statement to their social media accounts where they shared that their son had passed. It read,
"It is with our deepest sadness we have to announce that our baby boy has passed away. It is the greatest pain that any parent can feel."
The two shared that their infant daughter, twin to their late son, has been a source of strength for them as the tragedy has unfolded, continuing,
"Only the birth of our baby girl gives us strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness. We would like to thank the doctors and nurses for all their expert care and support."
The couple asked for privacy, before sending their son a last message of love.
"We are all devastated at this loss and we kindly ask for privacy at this very difficult time. Our baby boy, you are our angel. We will always love you."
The heartbreaking news comes just six months after Ronaldo and Rodríguez announced they were expecting, making Ronaldo a father to six children, and his second set of twins. The two shared their sonogram in October alongside the announcement, that read,
"Delighted to announce we are expecting twins. Our hearts are full of love-we can't wait to meet you #blessed."
Ronaldo and Rodríguez had their first child together in 2017. The news was announced a month after the birth of his elder twins.
Following the tragic news, Ronaldo's football club, Manchester United, released a statement of public support to their social media, telling the forward,
"Your pain is our pain. Sending love and strength to you and the family at this time."
