During Netflix's Geeked Week event, a bunch of announcements were made about upcoming shows. Undoubtedly, the most exciting of these was the one for the upcoming adaptation of Cowboy Bebop, the iconic 1998 anime.
Netflix has confirmed that Yoko Kanno, who provided the soundtrack for the original anime, is returning to compose for the new series. Fans of the franchise responded with unanimous support; Kanno's work is universally beloved and she has an obvious zest for the craft. For years, she secretly sang the vocals for many of her works and credited them to "Gabriela Robin", before revealing her pseudonym at a live concert in 2009. Aside from Cowboy Bebop, Kanno has created music for dozens of anime over the past two decades, in addition to composing a three-movement suite for the ascension of the new Japanese emperor in 2019.
Netflix also released an adorable teaser of the three leads dancing to "Tank!", the theme song of the original show, as a way of announcing that Kanno would be scoring the series.
