The coronavirus pandemic has affected countless industries, and the business of entertainment and production is no different. Although the pandemic rages on across the US, productions are taking specific precautions to ensure the safety of both the casts and crews. We spoke with actors across different productions about their experiences in the "new normal."
In 2021, safety is the first priority for productions as focus on getting fully back to work. In an industry with so many moving parts, masks, tests, sanitation are the bare minimum for safety. We talked with Superstorestar Ben Feldman about what protocols the show took for production. He shared:
We all get tested every single day and there's all these protocols in place and everybody feels safe. Which is a shame that every job doesn't get the access to this kind of testing."The Connors starMichael Fishman also shared with us what ABC provided for the set:
"We have PPEs on and we have masks and there's face shields and there's all of these extra elements that come in."
Even with strict protocols, there has been numerous production halts from the sets of American Crime Story, The Batman, and more due to positive test results. We spoke with Queer Eye's Karamo Brown about how COVID-19 affects the show's production. He told us,
"With our show it's all about connection, being there there for people, hugging, laughing with people. When I have these intimate moments where I help people through there mental and emotional traumas, I'm holding there hand. And with COVID, I can't do that."
With vaccines beginning to roll out across America, there is hope within the production business that thing will return to a more normal place in the near future.
