Directed by Luca Guadagnino, Call Me by Your Name turned Timothée Chalamet and Armie Hammer into household names around the world. But as Chalamet’s career skyrocketed, Hammer became embroiled in accusations of sexual harassment — and allegedly being a cannibal.

In 2022, Guadagnino is releasing a brand-new movie starring Chalamet, Bones and All, about a young man who happens to be a cannibal. As expected, the general public drew parallels between the upcoming film and Hammer’s recent accusations, particularly due to the timing of release between Bones and All and the Discovery+ docuseries House of Hammer.

However, Guadagnino keeps insisting that there is absolutely no correlation when it comes to his new movie and Hammer’s recent scandals. As reported by Variety, Guadagnino said the following during the Zurich Film Festival:

“David Kajganich and Theresa Park, the writer and one of our producers, have been working on Bones and All since the book was released. Many years ago, probably around the time when we were shooting Call Me by Your Name.”

The Bones and All director also noted:

“It was to be directed by my great colleague Antonio Campos, but he decided not to go for it. That’s when they gave me the script. Any correlation with this kind of innuendo and silliness is preposterous.”

Chalamet has yet to comment on the accusations against his Call Me By Your Name costar but has successfully dodged those questions for the time being. Guadagnino has also expressed a certain level of irritation when asked to talk about these matters, but he’s already been asked to address them during a few interviews.

In any case, Guadagnino insists that he wasn’t thinking about Hammer’s recent scandals when directing Bones and All – and he’s still trying to make that as clear as possible.

Bones and All opens November 18 in theaters.
