Chris Miller is set to direct a new "Smurfs" project!
From “Shrek the Third” to the Oscar nominated film “Puss In Boots,” Miller is widely experienced in the animated world. Now, he's amassing big expectations to an untitled "Smurfs" project, which is reported to be an animated musical. The screenplay will be written by Pam Brady, a known writer of “South Park.”
The details of the project will be highlighted at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France this week, though Ramsey Naito, President of Animation and Developers at Paramount and overseer of Nickelodeon Animation, has already expressed his excitement to The Hollywood Reporter.
“We’re thrilled to have such a talented group of people bringing audiences this latest rendition of the beloved Smurfs universe, including the incredible Chris Miller,” commented Naito.
Overseeing Miller will be Latifa Ouaou, Executive Vice President of Movies and Global Franchises for Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation.
This upcoming musical movie will be the first of many Smurf projects to come. Earlier this year, Paramount and Nickelodeon Animation announced a partnership with LAFIG Belgium and IMPS, the Smurf license holders.
The untitled "Smurfs" project is expected to be released December 2024.
