Khabene Lame, known as Khaby Lame, has taken out the queen of TikTok, Charli D’Amelio! The comedian currently has 1.5 million more followers than the dancer, bringing in over 144.2 million followers on the app.
“Making people laugh has always been my biggest passion in life. I have big dreams and will not stop until I have reached them. What I’m doing now is also a dream coming true!”
The comedian began entertaining people on TikTok in March 2020 during the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. After losing his job as a factory worker and moving back home, Lame started creating content on the platform to pass time. His first viral video, in November 2020, launched the creator’s success.
His popularity is accredited to the unique, yet simple, formula in his videos…not talking. Accumulating over 2.3 billion likes, the silent TikTok sensation relies on his facial expressions in reacting to funny clips, primarily "life hacks."
"I came up with the idea because I was seeing these videos circulating, and I liked the idea of bringing some simplicity to it," Lame told CNN.
The youngest D’Amelio’s journey on TikTok started in March 2019. Two months after downloading the app, the seemingly ordinary 16-year-old girl living and attending high-school in Connecticut posted a 30-second dance video that became limitlessly viral. In a whirlwind rise to fame, she amassed over 142 million followers on the platform. D’Amelio’ has her own Hulu television show, "The D'Amelio Show" and has even attended prestigious events such as the Met Gala.
In a panel during VidCon, the TikTok star told fans she is happy to share her fame on the platform.
“I had number one for two years. It’s time for someone else to have that spot, and I’m proud of him," she said. "He’s a friend, and there’s no bad blood…It feels great to know that someone else is getting that spot — someone that is sweet and a good person and loves what they do.”
