The Stars Shine at the City of Hope Gala
At the 2018 City of Hope gala, Jon Platt was honored with the 'Spirit of Life' award. The CEO of Warner Chappell Music is known for awarding college scholarships to a group of Montbello High School students every year.
"It is our turn to give back and to contribute to something more than ourselves. And the great thing about it? I'm more than happy to do it" - Jon Platt
Each year, this award is presented to a philanthropist who has reflected positively on the entertainment industry, and the stars had a lot to say about this year's honoree.
"I would describe Jon Platt as a genius, an innovator, a great man, a great husband, a great father." - Kelly Rowland
That sentiment was echoed throughout the night.
"I would describe him as a very tall, a very giving, kind man who does take care of business." - Tiffany Haddish
As excited as Tiffany Haddish was for the ceremony including a performance from Beyoncé and Jay Z presenting the award, it was City of Hope itself that resonated most deeply.
"It's important for me because it has helped so many people that I know, and I love what they do for the community."
Singer Bebe Rexha put it all in perspective, noting that, as much as artists focus on their standing in the charts, it is what the industry does to give back that really matters.
"Numbers are nothing. Helping people is everything." - Bebe Rexha
