In the last episode of Gwyneth Paltrow's YouTube show In Goop Health: The Sessions, Cameron Diaz revealed her reasoning for leaving acting, as well as how it has changed her life.
Diaz retired from acting several years ago, after countless blockbuster hits. Paltrow asked the star about her decision and what it felt like to leave such a huge career behind. Diaz told her:
"Like peace. A peace in my soul because I was finally taking care of myself. It's a strange thing to say, I know a lot of people won't understand it, I know you understand it, but it was so intense to work at that level and be that public and put yourself out there. There's a lot of energy coming at you at all times when you're really visible as an actor and doing press and putting yourself out there."
The actress recalled feeling overwhelmed by the pressures of the industry, saying:
"I stopped and really looked at my life. When you're making a movie … they own you. You're there for 12 hours a day for months on end you have no time for anything else. I realized I handed off parts of my life to all these other people. I had to basically take it back and take responsibility for my own life. I had been going so hard for so long, working, making films, such a grind. I didn't make any space for my personal life."
Welcoming Baby Raddix
Diaz also discussed how her life has changed since meeting husband Benji Madden. The pair got married in 2015 and just announced earlier this year they had their first child, Raddix Madden.
Diaz is now taking the time to focus on what makes her truly feel the happiest and most at peace, her family.
