After nine years, seven compilation albums, and nine studio albums, BTS has announced they will be taking a hiatus to get some rest and focus on individual projects.
The news was released Tuesday, June 14th, at a FESTA dinner, which is an annual celebration of their founding. During the pre-taped dinner, band member Suga revealed, “We’re going into a hiatus now."
Another one of the band’s members, RM, elaborated by talking about how the band has changed since its debut in June, 2013, saying he “didn’t know what kind of group we were anymore.”
With this, he also commented on the demands of the K-Pop industry, sharing,
“I always thought that BTS was different from other groups, but the problem with K-pop and the whole idol system is that they don’t give you time to mature. You have to keep producing music and keep doing something.”
This decision was not made lightly, and their fans have been, and will continue to be, their top-priority. The extended break will give the award-winning band the opportunity to relax, get reinspired, and find their identity again.
To reassure their ARMY, Jungkook added,
“We’re each going to take some time to have fun and experience lots of things. We promise we will return someday even more mature than we are now.”
