Bruce Willis is stepping away from acting.

The news came in a post from his daughter, Rumer, who shared a photo of her father with the caption,

"To Bruce's amazing supporters, as a family we wanted to share that our beloved Bruce has been experiencing some health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia, which is impacting his cognitive abilities."

Aphasia is defined as "a condition that robs you of the ability to communicate" that can be caused by a stroke, head injury, a brain tumor or other diseases. Rumer said that because of this, Bruce is indefinitely taking a break from his work.

Rumer continued,

"As a result of this and with much consideration Bruce is stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him. This is a really challenging time for our family and we are so appreciative of your continued love, compassion and support."

The post was also signed by Willis' ex wife, Demi Moore, along with his current wife and all his children. All reposted it to their respective Instagram accounts, noting their solidarity as a family.

"We are moving through this as a strong family unit, and wanted to bring his fans in because we know how much he means to you, as you do to him."

Those who worked with Willis in the past few years have noted that the actor hasn't seemed like himself. They reveal he's had trouble remembering lines, to the point where directors have had to cut down his characters and feed him lines through earpieces hidden by wigs. On one occasion, he even allegedly fired a gun loaded with blanks on the wrong cue.

Those close to him are relieved that he's taking a break and focusing on his health first. His family finished their post with a message of love, saying,

"As Bruce always says, "Live it up" and together we plan to do just that."
