Republicans in New York have called for Gay fellow Republican Rep. George Santos to resign.
During a press conference Wednesday morning, members of the Nassau County Republican Committee were joined by local elected Republicans and sitting members of Congress to say they would refuse to work with Santos if he did not resign.
Presenting a united front, Nassau County Republican Committee Chairman Joseph G. Cairo announced the ouster of Santos from the local party, alongside other elected officials.
"We're gathered here today to talk about Georg Santos," Cairo said. "George Santos's campaign last year, 2022, was a campaign of deceit, lies, and fabrication."
He said that Santos deceived the Nassau Republican Party, voters of the third district, other candidates, his opponents, and media members in the last election and has disqualified himself from serving.
"We do not consider him one of our Congress people," Cairo said. "His lies were not mere fibs. He disgraced the House of Representatives."
Cairo went on, "He has no place in the Republican Committee, nor should he serve in public service or as an elected official. He's not welcome here at Republican headquarters for meetings or public events."
In recent weeks, Santos has come under fire for lying about significant parts of his biography. As a result, he is under multiple criminal investigations in New York and ethics investigations by the Federal Election Commission.
