Anthony Hopkins Addresses His Oscars Win

Anthony Hopkins

On Sunday, Anthony Hopkins won the award for Best Actor in a Leading Role at the Oscars, but was not present to personally accept it. However, he has now released a speech on Instagram for his win.

Hopkins shared an Instagram video this morning, thanking the Academy for the award. Right at the beginning of the video, Hopkins says he's in his homeland of Wales:

"At 83 years of age i did not expect to win this award."

Then, he remembered Chadwick Boseman, who everyone expected to win for his performance in Ma Rainey's Black Bottom.

"I want to pay tribute to Chadwick Boseman, who was taken from us far too early. Again, thank you all very much. I really did not expect this. So I feel very privileged and honored. Thank you."

Boseman unfortunately passed away at the age of 43 in August 2020 after four years of battling colon cancer, diagnosis that he kept private while filming multiple projects. The actor has recently won SAG, Critic's Choice and Golden Globe Awards for his performance.

During Osca's night, the order of the awards was completely changed. The award for Best Actor was left as last and everyone believed that it was a way to pay tribute to Boseman for his win. Yet, the award went to Hopkins and viewers have expressed their disappointment on social media.

Hopkins has now become the oldest ever Oscar winner for acting.
