Arthur Kade chats with Ann Curry, who is hosting the new show Chasing the Cure on TNT and TBS.
Award-winning journalist and photographer Ann Curry is moving on to her newest project: Chasing the Cure on TNT and TBS. She focuses on how many Americans are misdiagnosed or go undetected for various illnesses and aims to connect people with the help they need.
Chasing the Cure also explores the discrepancy between the presence of high-quality medical care available in the United States and the amount of people who are denied access to those resources. Ann comments on medicine in the United States,
"Its's not accessible to most Americans. And so we're trying basically to punch a hole in the silo that keeps us from what we should get."
The upcoming show puts patients face-to-face with experts and other knowledgable sources who work to get to the bottom of a patient's medical mystery. Ann hopes that the show will bring people with similar symptoms together and encourage collaboration to fund research for a cure.
On the importance of community in Chasing the Cure, Ann responds,
"It's about connecting. People should not suffer alone."
Ann doesn't only connect patients to medical professionals, however. She also helps these individuals talk with others who faced the same diagnosis as a fellow patient. She speaks on the importance of validation and support from others, and we couldn't agree more!
