The Emmys this year is not letting COVID-19 get them down. The show is going virtual and that includes a virtual red carpet; ABC News Live will be streaming a 90-minute live pre-show special Countdown to the Emmys.
The pre-show special will be hosted by Good Morning America anchors Eva Pilgrim and Whit Johnson and ABC News correspondent Janai Norman from ABC News headquarters in New York. They will be joined by ABC News correspondent Chris Connelly and ESPN's senior entertainment reporter Kelly Carter live outside the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
Countdown to the Emmys will feature live interviews with nominees; showcase the most diverse group of nominees ever; predict who will win and who might surprise during the ceremony; spotlight the unprecedented year for TV production; and revisit some of the greatest fashion to grace Emmys red carpets of the past, along with a glimpse at this year's 'couch culture,'" said ABC News Live.
The Emmys will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and feature "138 stars from 114 locations across 10 countries." Kimmel will be hosting live from the Staples Center with no audience.
"How are we going to pull it off this year? I don't know," said Kimmel jokingly.
Countdown to the Emmys will stream globally on Sunday, September 20 from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. EDT/3:30 - 5:00 p.m. PDT on over 200 million streaming platforms including Hulu, Roku, YouTube TV, Twitter, ABCNews.com and much more. The main show will begin at 8:00 p.m. EDT/5:00 p.m. PDT on ABC.
