The African American Film Critics Association have revealed the honorees of their virtual celebration that is scheduled for August 22nd. Find out what stars are up for awards below!
The online and invitation only event will be hosted by actress and comedian Aida Rodriguez. Viola Davis will be receiving the best actress award for her role on How To Get Away With Murder.Sterling K. Brown will be honored with a best actor award for his performance in This is Us. Kenya Barris will be honored with a TV Icon award for his help in creating the hit show black-ish and #blackAF. LeBron James will also be honored with an award for best short film for his documentary series that focuses on James opening up the I Promise School in Akron, Ohio. HBO's Insecure will be receiving the comedy award and Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson will be gifted the best drama award for For Life.
Gil Robertson, the co-founder and president of AAFCA, released a statement about why the award show is so important during these chaotic times:
"In a time of such uncertainty, we have witnessed how powerful the medium of television and streaming is.We couldn't be more proud to honor shows and performances that uplift and inspire at a time when we all need entertainment the most."
