5 Seconds of Summer Opens Up About Drummer Ashton Irwin's Health Scare

5 Seconds of Summer's current tour is coming to a brief halt due to an incident where drummer Ashton Irwin had to leave the stage.

The Australian boy band played a show Sunday night in Houston, Texas. Mid-performance, the band had to leave; Irwin, the band’s drummer, had a health scare, causing the group to stop and find medical care.

The group updated fans on Instagram Story Monday night apologizing that the show was "cut short."

5 Seconds of Summer informed fans that Irwin was suffering extreme heat exhaustion.

"Last night’s show ended early due to a medical incident during the show. Upon experiencing physical symptoms, Ashton was taken to a local hospital for the tests and medical review. As a result, it was advised Ashton had experienced extreme heat exhaustion."

They posted an update a few hours later postponing the following show, stating,

"We are so sorry to cause inconvenience to your plans, but we promise for those of you who can still make it, we will put on the show of your lives. In the meantime, please join us in giving Ash the privacy to rest up and get back to full fitness."

In a tweet of his own, Irwin apologized to fans for "letting them down," elaborating,

"It’s always amazing to play a massive energetic show in every environment thrown at us. Unfortunately this time my body gave out due to heat exhaustion. I was in tears in the ambulance, because I feel I’ve let many people down. I’m looking after myself and getting rest now."
