This 200-Mile Skate For LGBTQ+ Rights and Climate Change Is Making Waves Across Florida

Laughlin Artz & World on Wheels raise awareness for climate change & anti-LGBTQ legislation in Florida with a 200-mile skateboarding journey from Orlando to Fort Lauderdale.

This Sunday, May 28, 2023, the Alli-GAY-Tour and World on Wheels Finale celebration is taking place at Rosie’s in Wilton Manors, Florida.

Alli-GAY-Tour and World on Wheels are the brainchildren of Laughlin Artz, skater and Executive Director of 2030 or Bust, an organization founded in 2020 dedicated to showing everyday people what they can do to fight climate change. In 2020, leading climate scientists alerted the world that we had ten years to reverse the emissions trend and get on track to protecting the climate from catastrophic change.

Laughlin Artz conceived of World on Wheels after finishing a 400-mile skateboard journey in 2020. In an effort to inspire more people to travel by bike, skateboard, or other eco-friendly means when possible, Laughlin skateboards extreme distances under the World on Wheels Tour banner - alongside enthusiastic skaters, bikers, and people concerned about climate change.

The Alli-GAY-Tour is a special version of World on Wheels created to raise awareness around the attacks on LGBTQ+ in Florida. Laughlin kicked off a 200-mile skate from Orlando to Fort Lauderdale on May 4, 2023, and invites everyone to join him at Rosie’s in Wilton Manors on Sunday, May 28, 2023, to celebrate the finale of his grand tour!

Sunday’s event will bring together skaters, drag queens, and supporters of World on Wheels for an afternoon of joy, inclusivity, and positive change. Featuring incredible skate performances, a delicious brunch, and hysterical drag queen entertainment, the event will be an opportunity to connect with like-minded people in Wilton Manors, make new friends, and celebrate the power of community coming together for a common cause.

Most people see climate change as something much bigger than them — something they would never have any impact on, leaving most people feeling hopeless or in denial about what they can do to help. The 2030 or Bust team aims to awaken everyone to the crisis at hand and show how we can work together to prevent the worst case scenario.

In addition to Sunday’s event at Rosie’s, everyone is invited to join Laughlin on his final 7 miles across the iconic Seven Mile Bridge in the Florida Keys on Monday, May 29, 2023. Join Laughlin and his community of passionate skaters and supporters to raise awareness about the climate crisis and the need for each of us to act before it’s too late.
